What is Shaver
Shaving is simply using a razor to remove the tip of the hair shaft that has grown up through the skin. Razors come in a bunch of different forms. There are standard razors that are either completely disposable or have a disposable blade that needs to be replaced regularly, and there are electric razors. Advantage of Shaver
You're Less Likely to Have Ingrown Hairs
Many razors are equipped with multiple blades, so if shaving with one blade leads to ingrown hairs, opting for an electric razor might be a good idea.
Some skin types benefit from a blade that is close to the skin but doesn't touch it directly. If you often get ingrown hairs when using razors with three or five blades, an electric shaver that creates a space between the blade and the skin might be right for you.
Protects Sensitive Skin
Electric shavers help capture hair without pulling and tugging at the skin, which reduces skin irritation. Newer technologies in the shaving industry also mean that common problems - skin discomfort or irritation associated with shaving - are reduced. The more we learn how the skin reacts to shaving, the better we can develop electric razors that reduce the most common discomfort.
Features a Long-Lasting Blade
Although the upfront investment in an electric razor may be higher, the payoff means that you only have to replace the cutting head about once a year, depending on the manufacturer.
Although the initial investment in an electric razor may be higher, it pays off that you only need to replace the cutting head about once a year, depending on the manufacturer.
Provides an Easy, Pleasant Shaving Experience
Some electric shavers are waterproof, which makes shaving easier. You can shorten the time it takes to shave by eliminating shaving cream or water and still have a comfortable experience.
It's Easy to Clean
If you don't clean your razor blade, you can build up debris and hair, reducing the blade's effectiveness. Fortunately, it's easy to clean an electric razor. It may come with a cleaning station that ensures the razor is ready after each use to enhance sanitizing for the next time.
Not only is an electric razor easy to clean, but it also doesn't need to be rinsed after each stroke, making it easier to use.
Type of Shaver

Disposable Razors
These razors are designed to be discarded after one or two shaves. The plastic handle is permanently attached to a shaving head.
Pros
Disposable razors are inexpensive and sold in packs of between ten and twenty.
They are a great stop gap solution in an emergency which makes them ideal for camping or travel. The convenience of a disposable razor means you end up carrying less in your travel bag.
Cons
They have a comfortable handle but the light weight of the razor forces more pressure on the grip. It adds to the discomfort as getting the right pressure for a relaxed shave becomes a challenge.
The blades are made of flimsy steel and stay sharp for just a couple of shaves. The quality of these razors is sub par. The inflexible shaving head and poor quality blades deliver uneven shaves and result in ingrown hairs on a man's face.
Electric Razors
The popular choice of regular travelers and men who are constantly on the move.
The design and function of electric razors has improved leaps and bounds in the past few decades. It is effective and gets the job done in a jiffy.
Pros
The advantage of an electric razor is they can be used on the go. Even in a car just before a routine Marine Corps inspection.
Unlike traditional shaving – an electric razor can be used without shaving cream. A bathroom sink and water are not necessary – although preferred.
Cons
They are rarely as effective as a double edge razor in giving a close shave. Though electric razors are convenient and quick – many men complain of irritated skin after using them.

Cartridge Razors
Cartridge razors are simple to use and allow shaving with or against the grain of hair follicles.
Cartridge razors consist of a plastic or metal handle with a flexible center that allows the razor to follow the shape of your face. The replaceable cartridges contain up to six stainless steel blades.
Pros
The entire cartridge is replaced as needed. Each cartridge is effective for 3-4 shaves.
They are also the safest to use – a good shave takes about ten minutes and there is no danger of accidentally cutting while shaving.
Cons
The problem with these razors is the ever increasing price. At around $1 a shave – $350 a year, the replaceable cartridges are not easy on the pocket.
As the blade cuts through the beard – hair follicles get stuck in between the blades. Multiple passes are sometimes required to shave a cross section of stubble, causing shaving irritation and ingrown hairs.
Safety Razors
Now we're going old school. Safety razors are probably what your grandfather and in some cases – your father used for his daily shave.
A slight edge of a single razor blade makes contact with the skin – preventing the blade from cutting into the skin. Hence the name – safety razor.
These razors consist of a permanent handle with a metal head which holds a replaceable, single stainless steel razor blade with two sharp edges.
Pros
Depending on the frequency of use – these blades can be replaced once a week.
The cost of a safety razor ranges between $25 -$150. The cost of double-edge razor blades ranges from $.09 to $.70. That's an annual cost of $36 for blades! And a well made safety razors lasts a lifetime with proper care.
Double-edge razor blades require a very light touch to effectively shave your beard. Since so little pressure is required – most men find they do not suffer from shaving irritation, rash or ingrown hairs.
Cons
Safety razors require hours of practice before they become easy easy to use. Careful attention is required to avoid nicks and small cuts. Also your initial investment is going to be higher (although within a couple months you'll break even and then start saving money!)

How to Use Shaver
Shaving is a common grooming practice that can help you look neat and professional. However, using a shaver incorrectly can cause skin irritation, cuts, ingrown hairs, and infections. To avoid these problems, you need to know how to use a shaver properly. Here are some tips to help you get a smooth and comfortable shave.
Choose the Right Shaver for Your Skin and Hair Type
There are different types of shavers, such as electric, disposable, cartridge, and safety razors. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on your preferences and needs. For example, electric shavers are convenient and fast, but they may not give you a close shave. Disposable razors are cheap and easy to use, but they can cause more irritation and waste. Cartridge razors have multiple blades that can give you a close shave, but they are more expensive and prone to clogging. Safety razors have a single blade that can reduce irritation and ingrown hairs, but they require more skill and patience to use.
Prepare Your Skin and Hair before Shaving
You should always wash your face with warm water and a mild cleanser before shaving. This will help soften your hair and open your pores, making it easier to shave. You can also exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub or a washcloth to remove dead skin cells and prevent ingrown hairs. After washing your face, apply a shaving cream, gel, or oil to lubricate your skin and protect it from the blade. Choose a product that suits your skin type and avoid alcohol-based or fragranced products that can dry out or irritate your skin.
Use the Correct Technique to Shave
Hold the shaver at a 30-degree angle to your skin and shave in the direction of your hair growth. This will help prevent razor bumps and cuts. Do not press too hard or go over the same area multiple times, as this can cause irritation and inflammation. Rinse the blade frequently with water to remove any hair or shaving product buildup. If you want a closer shave, you can reapply shaving cream and shave against the grain, but be careful not to nick yourself or cause razor burn.
After Shaving, Rinse Your Face with Cold Water and Pat it Dry with a Clean Towel
Do not rub your skin, as this can cause friction and damage. Apply an aftershave lotion, balm, or moisturizer to soothe and hydrate your skin. Avoid products that contain alcohol, menthol, or fragrance, as they can sting and dry out your skin. You can also apply an antiseptic cream or gel to any cuts or nicks to prevent infection.
Clean and Store Your Shaver Properly after Each Use
Rinse the shaver under running water and shake off any excess water. Dry the shaver with a towel or air dry it in a well-ventilated area. If you have an electric shaver, you may need to remove the head and clean it with a brush or a special solution provided by the manufacturer. Store your shaver in a dry and cool place away from moisture and heat. Replace the blades or cartridges regularly to ensure optimal performance and hygiene.

Rechargeable Battery: Powers the shaver.
Switch: Used to turn the shaver on and off.
Electric Motor: Drives the gear system and the blades.
Gear System: Transfers the motion from the motor to the blades.
Blades: Cut the whiskers.
Printed Circuit Board (PCB): Contains the charging system, the contacts for the switch, and the motor controller. There is also a very tiny auxiliary PCB that holds the 2 LEDs. These LEDs indicate that the battery needs recharging, that the razor is on, or that the razor is recharging.
How to Changing Your Blades for Shaver
Rotary Shavers
Make sure your shaver is turned off.
Pull the shaving head holder off the body of the shaving unit.
Twist the rotating rings inside your shaver head holder and pull them out one by one.
Remove the shaving heads from the shaving head holder.
Each shaving head consists of a cutter and a guard. Please keep in mind that the cutter and guard get used to working together and create their own track. Therefore, make sure you keep them grouped as a pair together to avoid mixing them up. Put the new shaving heads into the shaving head holder.
Reattach the shaving head holder to the bottom part of the shaving unit.

Foil Shavers
For Shavers with a 1-Piece Head:
Grasp the sides of your shaver and pull the foil to remove the shaver head. The foil and cutters for these models is combined in a cassette-type head, so there is no need to take this apart.
Slot your new head straight on top of your shaver.
For Shavers with a 2-Part Head:
Remove the foil, by pressing either the release button on the side. If your shaver doesn't have one, simply pull the foil.
Rotate the cutter block by 90 degrees and pull it off, holding it at the ends to avoid touching the blade. It is important to not pull out the blades when in a cutting position. This can damage the drive shaft that the blades sit in, which can impact the performance of the shaver.
To fit your new blade, lightly push the cutter block back onto the base. Then, push the foil onto the shaver until you hear a 'click'.

Remove Trapped Hairs
If you dry shave, you'll need to remove the top of the electric razor to expose the blades or foils. Most electric razors with rotary blades flip open, while clippers or those with foils often pop off. Use a razor brush or a soft small toothbrush to swipe out loose hairs. Try to avoid tapping the razor against anything to loosen the hairs, but if you need to, tap gently on the body or plastic part of the razor, not near the blades.
Add Liquid Soap to the Blades
Wet the blades and then add a few drops of dish detergent or antibacterial liquid soap to the blades.
Run the Razor to Allow it to Create Suds
Turn the razor and let the blades create a sudsy lather for 15 seconds. Add more water as necessary.
Thoroughly Rinse the Razor
Run the razor blades under warm water to rinse away all the soap.
Take The Head off and Rinse it
Turn off the razor, remove the head or cassette, and rinse it, and be sure to get all sides and in between foils or blades.
Allow the Razor to Air Dry Completely
Leave the razor disassembled to air dry completely in a well-ventilated space.
Brand
When it comes to shaving something as valuable as your face we always recommend choosing a trusted and reputable brand and we are proud to stock the biggest selection of branded shavers available online. Men generally favour one brand over the other and this mainly comes down to personal preference.
Foil Vs Rotary
Electric shavers fall into one of two categories; rotary and foil. A foil shaver is made of a thin, curved metal foil that covers a cutting blade. When moving back and forth, the foil glides over the contours of your face whilst the blade cuts stubble as it pokes through the perforated foil. Foil shavers are great if you have a shorter, thinner beard and want to achieve a close shave every day. They are also favoured by men with delicate and sensitive skin who are susceptible to razor burn as they tend to be less harsh on the skin. If you suffer from sensitive skin pay close attention to your technique and use a quality shave preparation product to protect your skin and help prevent irritation. A rotary shaver, on the other hand, has three or four round heads which move easily in a circular motion around your features. Cutters spin below the heads as they move over the face, cutting the hair. Rotary shavers generally suit gentlemen with slightly longer stubble who don't want to shave every day. They are also more effective on men with with medium to coarse beard density and tougher skin.
Charging
Electric shavers can be mains powered, battery operated or rechargeable and the option you go for will probably be dependent on your lifestyle. Rechargeable shavers are ideal for use on the move, providing the flexibility and convenience to shave anywhere, anytime, however, the battery life may become a hindrance if it needs to be recharged too frequently. There are a number of battery operated travel shavers on the market; these are great for occasional use but are not cost effective for more regular shaving as the cost of batteries will soon stack up.
Wet Vs Dry
Another key decision is wet shaving versus dry shaving. Dry shaving is super fast and clean so is the ultimate in easy shaving and many men prefer the speed and convenience of a dry electric shaver. As well as dry use, some electric shavers can also be used wet, with a shaving gel or foam giving you the best of both worlds. Some can even be taken into the shower, though we wouldn't recommend submerging them completely. Panasonic in particular offer fantastic wet and dry technology.
Manual Clean Vs Cleaning and Charging Stations
Cleaning is a vital component of your electric shaver care and maintenance routine and you should clean your shaver after every usage. If you do it regularly it's a quick job and not a big deal but some men just don't have the time or inclination. The more advanced models of shaver come with their own built in cleaning and charging stations so they can clean themselves. Simply pop your shaver into the base unit and leave it to do it's magic. It's a hassle-free way to keep your shaver clean and hygienic. You do however need to do is top up the cleaning fluid or replace the cleaning cartridges from time to time so there is an additional cost.
Budget
Price points on electric shavers vary enormously; a quality electric shaver will set you back anywhere between £50 and £300. It is worth spending as much as you can afford as a quality shaver well looked after will last many years. Having said that, as feature advancements have trickled down to the less expensive ranges all of the major brands have really good options at all price points and our offering includes excellent buys regardless of your budget. Don't forget to bear the price of spare parts and replacement blades in mind. Ensure that the expense of keeping your shaver functioning properly fits into your overall budget.
Difference Between Electric Shaver and Razors
A Quick Guide to Razors and Electric Shavers
There are two main types of razors – disposable cartridge razors with a three to five blade variety and safety razors, smaller steel devices that hold double edged razor blades. Multi-blade disposable razors can cause skin irritation and ingrown hairs as opposed to the double blade razors that can give a clean and close shave. However, the difference between a disposable razor and a safety razor are relatively slim.
Electric shavers have become an increasingly popular appliance used for shaving. They come in a number of designs, the main two being foil and oscillating. A foil shaver uses a blade-covering foil to provide a closer shave and the oscillating shaver uses a rotating blade that provides an even shave, however not as close. Overall shavers don't provide as clean or close a shave as a razor, but they are more convenient and much safer to use.
How Much Do Razors and Electric Shavers Cost?
Razors for men and women can start at just $2.50 and reach upwards of $30 depending on the number of razors in packs, the design and the brand. Name brands will sit at the higher end of the price range, whereas home brands will generally be cheaper and of a lesser quality.
Electric shavers come in a variety of models and sizes, so the price range is quite broad from $20 to $600. You can choose from pocket sized shavers that are easy to take with you when you travel, or larger shavers that offer more features and benefits.
